Applications are invited from eligible candidates for registration to one year M.Phil programme (regular ) of Kuvempu University for the Academic year 2008-09 in the Post - Graduate Departments of the University. The admission will be made as per the regulations governing the degree of Master of Philosophy ( M.Phil ) Programme 2006 through Departmental Level Entrance test. The interested candidates may contact the Chairpersons of the concerned departments or the Deputy Registrar (Academic) for more details. The last date for submission of prescribed filled in application form is 22-11-2008

INSTRUCTIONS:

1)The details regarding eligibility conditions, conduct of entrance test can be obtained from the concerned Post-Graduate departments.

2)The details of fee structure can be obtained from the academic section of the University.

3)The application fee of Rs.300/- should be remitted through the bank challan to the State Bank of Mysore A/c No. 540230 36291

4)The Application form may also be obtained by post,by sending a DD payable at SBM/ SBI Shankaraghatta drawn in favour of “ Finance Officer, Kuvempu University, Shankaraghatta,” along with a self addressed envelope duly affixing postal stamps worth Rs.10/- .

5)Reservation for different categories of candidates shall be as per the existing regulation of the University.

6)Application form can be obtained from the academic section of the University on payment of the prescribed fee.

7) The filled in applications should be submitted to the Chairpersons of the concerned Post -Graduate Departments.

8) a) A candidate with Post - Graduate degree from any University
in the state or from any other University outside the state securing not less than 55% Marks, shall be eligible to apply. However, this minimum marks shall not be applicable to foreign students and also the sponsored candidates of Public/ Private Sector.

b) In respect of permanent teachers with Five years of teaching experience or those on F.I.P. and also the candidates belonging to SC/ST/ Category –I, the minimum percentage of marks required is 50% in aggregate, at the Post – Graduate Degree level in the concerned subject.

9) The condition of appointment of guide, conduct of examination and intake of candidates per eligible guide are as per the existing M. Phil regulations .

10) The candidate is required to pay the registration & tuition fee at the time of admission to M.Phil programme. Further, fees in respect of examination , dissertation & marks card shall be paid at the time of examination.

11) Applications received after the last date will not be entertained.

Objectives

Acupuncture is a traditional method of therapy which is very well recognized world over and well accepted by the people as it does not have any side effects. This method has been found to be useful in all types of diseases specially the chronic diseases. Moreover the cost of the treatment is less as compared to the other systems of medicine

It shall help graduates of different system of medicine to learn a new modality therapy and utilize it for patient benefit in treating acute and chronic diseases.

This will be first medical programme which will be offered online

The Programme is offered in English.

Eligibility

The programme is available to the Medical graduates (Allopathy, Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Yoga and Naturopathy ).

Duration

The programme can be completed in a minimum period of 1 year and a maximum period of 4 years.

Credit System

This programme is of 32 credits. The programme will have six theory and four practical components.

Programme Structure

The 32 credit programme comprises 6 core theory courses.

Special Features of the Programme

The special features of the programme is its excellent study materials developed by the experts in the country and have been prepared not only by the specialists and experienced Acupuncturists but also specialists in computer, communication and media technologies. This is the first medical programme which is being offered online.

Evaluation System

This Programme adopts continuous evaluation system through assignments, practical work, seminars and term-end examination.

About the PG Diploma in Acupuncture Online Programme

PG Diploma in Acupuncture programme is now available online. This is an initiative of IGNOU to develop in-house Learning & Content Management System for imparting online education. It is a complete virtual learning environment suite covering all the activities from registration to certification. The following features are available in PG Diploma in Acupuncture online programme

1. Walk in admission- Registration form has been specially devised with the facility of uploading scanned certificates, other required documents and photograph. Registration will be confirmed only after verification of the certificates and payment of the required admission fee. Facility for online payment is available through the payment gateway of AXIS Bank.
2. Integrated multimedia courseware- once registered, learners will have access to personalized learning space (My Page). This includes self instructional material.
3. Online counseling and mentoring – web cast based counseling integrated with text based chatting facility is used for counseling purposes.
4. 24×7 learner support- asynchronous and synchronous modes of interaction will be used to provide just in time support to learners.
5. Portfolio based continuous evaluation- Evaluation will be done by giving theory and practical internal assessment examinations during each of the four contact sessions.
6. E-tutor based practical- online instructions and e-tutorials for hands on practice of i) Acupuncture needling methods and ii)Moxibustion will be used for the practical sessions. Multimedia manuals for self learning are provided online.

9. Online Term End Examination- The term end examination would be at the study centres. At these study centres the term end examination will include theory as well as practical at the end of the course.
